Now, we are dedicated to brewing the best cask-conditioned beer possible, using only the finest quality raw materials – sourced locally wherever possible – and already recognised as a leading cask ale brewery in the county of Shropshire.
We are kept busy supplying a broad spread of free houses and others throughout Shropshire and Cheshire. Sadly, pubs close regularly but the revival of “Real Ale” has enabled those who remain to offer a better and better product and variety, usually in ever improving surroundings and often with an excellent dining menu as well.
We design our own beers and recipes using only the best and purest ingredients, malt, hops, yeast and water. You will not find any stocks of “brewers adjuncts” or sugars in our brewery. So we are very proud of our suppliers.
Big Shed Malt
Warminster Maltings may be in Wiltshire but are one of very few traditional floor malsters still working and supplying British breweries. And in fact the barley they malt is grown very close to us in North Shropshire.
Big Shed Hops & Yeast
For our hops we look a little closer, and to the south, Charles Faram & Co are located in Great Malvern and gather a great deal of the noble English hops we use from the hop gardens of Hereford and Worcester. The principal varieties we use are Fuggles and Goldings and Challenger.
For yeast, we maintain and nurture a traditional strain of live English Ale yeast that ferments on top of the beer in open fermenters in a traditional manner.
None of these, ingredients or methods, are the cheapest way of brewing beer, but we work hard and they produce a better product with a finer taste and aroma that we can be proud of.
The Publican and the Customer,
A few questions answered
Do you have a published trade price list?
Yes, certainly we do, but not on our website. A phone call or email and we will email it back or post it to you as quick as anything.
Do you use any of the regional or national beer distributors?
Yes we do! Please contact your local distributor or email@example.com to find out more.
I need to test a sample of a new beer before I place a cask order, can you do a polypin for trialling?. Or … Our restaurant only has a very small bar can you supply pins or polypins?
Yes we do!. We do have some 4.5gal steel pins and we rack a few with each brew. We also keep a stock of polypins but we use these for racking bright beer for retail customers. Our main delivery is live beer in 9gal cask and we ask you to try that as the product you will hopefully be buying on a regular basis. To ease the pain we have keen pricing and a good initial discount.
I am holding a party and a 9 gal cask is just too much beer.
We do have 20 Lt. polyins ( 35 pints) and we can rack bright beer into them within a few hours of a phone call. Remember, as bright beer, it is ready to drink but will only keep a couple of days. If you collect a day early then make a big space in your fridge or a very cool corner to keep it overnight. 12 or 13C is the right temperature to store and serve. If you are happy and familiar with keeping live beer we will supply a 9gal firkin or 4.5gal pin and loan a tap and a minibar to serve it.
Have you got any promotional freebie bar stuff please?
Yes, we keep a small stock of glasses but they do go very quickly!
Can I buy your beer in bottles?
At the present time, sorry, but no. As a new brewery we do not have the facility available to bottle and would have to use a bottling company and devote a huge amount of time and capital investment to distribute effectively. Our quality is important to us and at the moment we do not want to leave that in other hands.
